Silk Cap
Flat packed in a triangular shape, our silk caps are about 25cm diameter and about 25 cm in length from the tip of the cap to the brim.
By opening up the brim and placing your hands inside and stretching the sides, the caps create a 3d bowl shape. They can also be separated into 3 or 4 fine layers.
Felters can incorporate these wonderful 3d silk forms when felting vessels, bags, hats or other three dimensional shapes. I have also stretched these caps out to about 50cm diameter and then broken the bottom to form a tube. This tube can then be used as a large circle shape or cut and laid out to make a long fibrous scarf of silk. Lay this on our Felbi Prefelt and felt to create a a gorgeous silk wool scarf. The possibilities are endless.
Spinners can stretch and then break the diameter so that they can begin to draw a silk thread which unwinds its way in a circular fashion down the to the base of the bowl. This silk creates a superb texture in hand spun yarn.
