Felbi Wool Batts

Felbi Wool Batts, sometimes also referred to as prefelt or needle felt, are crafted from the finest  Merino wool and available in 27 tempting colours. To purchase Felbi, scroll to the bottom of this page, select one of four colour palettes: earths, brights, neutrals or blends .  Select your colour  within that palette and then the size you require.

Felbi can be wet or dry felted.  It can also be used in machine embellishing.  For feltmakers, Felbi needle felt eliminates the need to "layout", allowing you to spend more time on your design.  It can be wet felted in the same way as you would felt wooltops(felting wool). Felbi gives a smooth, even finish when felted.  It easily integrates other fabrics, silks and yarns through processes feltmakers call 'nuno felting' or 'laminating'.

Refer to the instructions link on the left hand side of this page for more details on wet felting techniques with Felbi.  We also now sell a range of felting books on how to wet and dry felt.  Click the felting books link on the home page.

Dry Felting involves using felting needles manually or with a sewing machine embellisher that has felting needles fitted to it.

Felbi is a great  product for creating felt 'yardage' for garment construction and a life saver when having to teach felting to school students in a 50 minute session!.

The density of the Felbi needle felt does vary somewhat (an industrial limitation) but it is approximately 75 gsm (grams per square metre).

Two sizes are available: 'Planks' approx 35 cm by 200 cm and 'Logs' 150 cm by 200cm.  The sizes are approximate due to the potential drafting (stretching) and settling of the Felbi.

Felbi does need to be felted.  It does not have enough structural integrity in its original state to use as a finished textile.
